The Finnish Arabic Orchestra was founded in 2019 in Helsinki by Iraqi composer and oud player Ali Haitham, a graduate of the Sibelius Academy – University of the Arts Helsinki with a Bachelor’s degree in Global Music. The ensemble brings together around thirty musicians from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds, creating a unique platform for dialogue between Middle Eastern traditions and Western classical music.

Members of the orchestra represent Finland, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Estonia, Slovenia, China, South America, Chile, Colombia, Greece, and Argentina. This diversity is reflected in the orchestra’s sound, which combines traditional Arabic melodies and rhythms with Western harmony, orchestration, and contemporary arrangements. By blending these influences, the orchestra develops a musical language that is both rooted in heritage and oriented toward innovation.

Since its founding, the Finnish Arabic Orchestra has grown into an important voice for intercultural exchange, presenting performances that highlight the universality of music while celebrating difference. Through concerts and collaborations, the orchestra continues to expand its role as a bridge between cultures, contributing to dialogue and mutual understanding through the arts.
