Brian Cunningham is a Scottish woodwind specialist, conductor, and music educator who has been based in the United Arab Emirates since 2008. He is the Woodwind Specialist and Director of Teaching & Learning at the Centre for Musical Arts (CMA) in Dubai, where he leads a variety of student ensembles, including the acclaimed CMA Big Band.

In addition to his work at CMA, Cunningham directs Dubai City Sound, an award-winning women’s choir, and is regularly invited to deliver orchestral workshops and training programs in schools across the UAE. His leadership has fostered musical development for students of all ages, advancing community engagement through accessible, high-quality education.

An accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist, Cunningham holds a degree in music from Napier University in Scotland. His international experience includes studying and performing across the UK, Europe, and the United States, contributing to a career that balances performance, education, and ensemble leadership. Through his multifaceted work, he continues to enrich the UAE’s musical and cultural landscape.
