Carlos Guedes is a versatile composer whose work spans commissioned projects for dance, theater, film, and concert music. With more than one hundred public premieres worldwide, Guedes’ compositions have been featured at major venues and festivals including The Kitchen, Judson Church, SXSW, Porto 2001 and Guimarães 2012 European Capitals of Culture, Expo ’98, Expo 2020, NYUAD Arts Center, Beijing Modern Music Festival, and the London Design Biennale. In 2023, his work even reached outer space, with his EP Far Out streamed aboard the International Space Station as part of the AstroBeat project with NYU Abu Dhabi’s Center for Astrophysics and Space Science.

Guedes’ eclectic style blends influences from industrial and world music with Western classical traditions and trans-cultural improvisation. A pioneer in the use of computational technologies in composition, Guedes expands musical expression through digital innovation. Recent projects include Formation of Soof, which received the London Design Biennale Theme Award Medal in collaboration with Qasr Al Hosn/House of Artisans, Milktrain, Amna Alnowais, Waleed Al Madani, Safeya Alblooshi, and Juan Sierra. Another significant work, Time Poetries, is a fifty-six-minute cycle for percussion and electronics premiered by Drumming GP in Sevilla, Spain.

Through a career defined by experimentation, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and international reach, Guedes continues to redefine contemporary composition while bridging tradition, technology, and cultural exchange.
