Kenan Adnawi is a Syrian oud virtuoso, composer, and educator recognized for his pioneering fusion of Arabic musical tradition with global styles. Winner of first prize at the International Oud Competition in Lebanon (2022) and second prize in Saudi Arabia (2023), Adnawi has emerged as one of the foremost oud performers of his generation.
Beginning his oud studies at the age of seven, Adnawi has since performed on some of the worlds most prestigious stages, including the Kennedy Center, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, La Scala, and the Bolshoi Theater, where his orchestral composition Love Dance for Oud and Orchestra premiered in 2023. His music weaves Middle Eastern melodies with elements of jazz and classical traditions, creating a distinct and evolving sound.
Adnawi has collaborated with leading ensembles, notably performing with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Lorin Maazel, further advancing the ouds presence on international stages. His critically acclaimed albums Aura (2014) and Watar (2023) showcase his boundary-pushing artistry and commitment to innovation.
Holding a masters degree in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory in the United States, Adnawi also conducts workshops worldwide, inspiring emerging oud players. Through performance, composition, and education, he continues to shape the future of Arabic music on the global stage.
