Mary Gatchell is a New Yorkbased composer, singer, songwriter, oboist, pianist, conductor, music director, and educator whose career spans performance, composition, and education. Originally from Epping, New Hampshire, Gatchell studied at New York University, earning a Bachelors degree in Jazz Theory and Composition and a Masters degree in Jazz Piano.
Raised in a family deeply immersed in the arts, Gatchell trained extensively from an early agesinging, acting, and dancing in Broadway productions at the Leddy Center for the Performing Arts, founded by her mother, Elaine Gatchell, and performing on oboe and piano in ensembles led by her father, J. Bruce Gatchell. This foundation prepared her for a vibrant professional career following her graduation in 1999.
Mary Gatchell has performed at many of New York Citys most prestigious venues, including Blue Note, Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Birdland, Knitting Factory, Bitter End, Cutting Room, Rockwood Music Hall, Groove, and CBGBs. Her Broadway credits include performances at the Lambs Theatre, Minskoff Theatre, Lena Horne Theatre, and Barrymore Theatre. Internationally, she has brought her original music to concert halls, opera houses, jazz clubs, and festivals in Italy, as well as to The Arts Centers Blue Hall in Abu Dhabi.
Through her multifaceted artistry, Gatchell continues to inspire audiences worldwide, blending technical excellence with a creative voice that crosses genres and traditions.
