Samir Aouad (born Samir Ahajgoun) is a Moroccan-born oud player, composer, and educator from Casablanca, and the nephew of renowned oud master Haj Younes. A prodigious talent, he won First Prize at the Grand Conservatory of Casablanca and was celebrated nationally for his virtuosity from a young age. After exploring genres such as black metal and flamenco, he moved to France in 2006, where he developed a contemporary approach to the oud that fuses Arab, jazz, and world music traditions.
As both a soloist and ensemble player, Aouad has performed extensively across Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, including appearances with the internationally acclaimed Egyptian Project. In 2022, he founded his own Oriental Jazz Trio, which won two regional awards and continues to tour in France and abroad. He is currently composing for a large symphonic harmony orchestra of 80 musicians, with a major concert scheduled for 2026.
Deeply committed to education and cultural dialogue, Aouad leads masterclasses, workshops, and courses on Oriental music and improvisation in conservatories and music schools. He is also the founder and artistic director of an Arab-Oriental amateur orchestra of more than 30 musicians and vocalists, advancing his mission to build bridges between musical traditions through both artistic innovation and educational initiatives.
